Memorial Day is just around the corner and it's caught me a bit by surprise!
With the busy event season underway and the very odd (cold/miserable/rainy) weather we've been having here in the DC area, I just can't believe May is about to come to a close. It does not feel like we've had a very Spring-y Spring and now it's about to be Summer!
Traditionally the unofficial start of Summer, Memorial Day is actually about much more than a weekend beach getaway. Originating as "Decoration Day", the holiday started as a way to remember those who died during the country's bloody Civil War. Becoming more popular after World War II, the holiday eventually turned into a day to honor all Americans who have died while in military service.
Many parades and events take place in cities and towns across the country during the holiday weekend, and it does make it a great time to get together with family and friends. So, if you're celebrating Memorial Day this upcoming weekend with a party or bbq, here are some inspiration images to get your planning underway.
